DAILY NUGGETS

With LILLIAN YEPWI

YOU may know and even discover your purpose, yet struggle with no direction on how to fulfil it. To be lost is sometimes the path to rediscover yourself and return to the right destination of life. Purpose requires a path to flourish—it is the “why” of your existence. But without direction, which is the “how” and “where,” you remain unfulfilled.

Think of a seed. Its purpose is to become a tree, but without being planted in the right soil, watered and given sunlight, it never fulfils that purpose. The seed knows what it is meant to be, yet without a path, it remains only potential instead of fruit.

Need for God’s guidance

You may be busy, moving and trying different things, but without clear direction, you can end up going in circles. Activity is not the same as progress. Many live with purpose inside them but die without seeing it manifested because they never aligned with the path God designed. Being busy is not the same as being fruitful.

The Bible reminds us: “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6). This means direction comes from God. Purpose is divine, and it originates from the Creator. Without His guidance, you risk pursuing what looks good but is not God’s will. Prayer, the Word, and intimacy with the Spirit are therefore non-negotiable. Purpose without God’s direction is like sailing without a compass—you may be on water, but you are lost at sea.

Purpose is not self-invented, it is God-given. The Creator of a thing knows its function. When you lean on your own understanding, you risk misalignment and frustration. But when you yield to God, He not only reveals vision but provides the steps to walk in it.

Misused potential without direction

Without direction, purpose can easily be misused. A knife has a purpose—to cut—but if used wrongly, it wounds instead of serves. In the same way, someone with gifts but no direction may misuse their potential, even unintentionally. Good qualities such as compassion, leadership, or intelligence can be misapplied without divine wisdom.

History shows that some leaders and innovators had great purpose but, lacking godly direction, built systems that harmed humanity rather than serving it. This is why potential must always be governed by God’s wisdom.

Direction brings clarity and focus. Many people scatter their energy across too many pursuits because they lack direction. But direction channels gifts into the one thing you were created for, ensuring lasting impact. Imagine light scattered everywhere—it glows but does not cut. When focused into a laser, that same light cuts through steel. That is what direction does. It turns scattered effort into unstoppable force.

Finding clarity, fulfilment

Frustration sets in when there is no direction guiding your purpose. Imagine knowing you are meant for more but not knowing how or where to start. It creates confusion, comparison and, sometimes, premature quitting. Yet the problem is rarely lack of purpose. It is lack of clarity. As Scripture says: “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables that he may run that readeth it” (Habakkuk2:2). Without clear vision and direction, there is no progress, only stumbling.

Purpose cannot be fulfilled without direction. Purpose is divine, but direction is the pathway that makes it possible. Purpose without direction is like having fuel but no steering wheel. So, you will move, but not towards where God has destined you. Fulfilment comes when your divine purpose is matched with divine direction, making your life a testimony of destiny realised.

To walk in this path: first, seek God’s voice in prayer and in His Word, for He delights in guiding His children. Second, submit to mentorship, as God often grants clarity through those who have walked the journey before you. Third, take small steps of obedience —direction unfolds gradually and faithfulness in little things brings greater clarity. Finally, observe your life patterns; your experiences, gifts and struggles often point to your purpose. Purpose is not vague but firm, definite and achievable, with God’s direction.
