AS part of its core mandate to ensure a safe motoring environment and reduce road traffic deaths, the Plateau State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olajide Magaji, has urged motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians to always obey road traffic rules and regulations.
Magaji made the call during the unveiling and commissioning of billboards and the presentation of flyers with road safety messages at the FRSC Unit, Hawan Kibo Command, in Riyom Local Government Council on September 11,2025.
He explained that FRSC campaigns targeted all segments of society, including churches, mosques, schools, organisations and marketplaces, to ensure citizens know what it takes to use the road safely.
He stressed that lives are precious and must be protected, adding that road safety is a shared responsibility for everyone.
The commander warned road users to take Hawan Kibo road seriously as it is dangerous with descents, slopes and bends that had claimed many lives.
He noted that Hawan Kibo had been nicknamed “Many Have Gone”, cautioning new users of the road not to overspeed, insisting it is better late than never because life has no duplicate.
Riyom Local Government Chairman, Shuwa Bature Sati, while unveiling the billboards and distributing flyers, commended FRSC personnel for their tireless efforts in saving lives daily.
He appealed to the corps not to relent in its work and urged the public to avoid drinking alcohol before driving.
Sati explained that the billboards were strategically placed to educate road users, noting that Riyom is about 30 kilometres from the state capital and covers 107 square kilometres.
He said the collaboration with FRSC was aimed at reducing accidents on Hawan Kibo road and ensuring it is safe for all.
The Unit Commander, Deputy Corps Commander Calvin Akaagerger, expressed gratitude to God, FRSC personnel and Riyom LGC chairman for working together to make Hawan Kibo road safer.
Highlights of the event included distribution of flyers to motorists and motorcyclists, inspection of bad roads without pedestrian shoulders and a visit to Assop Waterfalls to showcase the beauty of Plateau State.
