From AMEDU JOSEPH, LOKOJA

A CATHOLIC priest, Rev. Fr. Wilfred Ezemba of St. Paul Parish, Agaliga-Efabo in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

The incident occurred last Saturday at Imane in Olamaboro Local GovernmentArea.

Reports indicated that the priest may have been kidnapped alongside other commuters along the Imane-Oguguroad.

The development has thrown the Catholic community in the area into confusion.

“Our confusion is high because since his abduction three days ago, his abductors have not made any contact to demand ransom, but we are confident that Almighty God will deliver him safely,” said Fr. Michael.

Security agencies, including the Kogi East Neighbourhood Watch, police and troops have been combing the bushes and forests in search of the kidnappers.

The priest’s abduction is the second kidnapping incident in one week in the same local government.

On Sunday, September/, 2025,BarristerA.B.Shaibu was kidnapped between Etieke and Okugoh and was later released after his family paid ransom.

Kogi State Police Command spokesman, SP

William Ovye Aya, said he was not aware of the incident but promised to verify with relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association, Idah Branch, has called on government at all levels to take urgent steps to address rising insecurity in Kogi State.

The association lamented recurrent abductions, including the case of A. B. Shuaib and frequent kidnappings along major roads in Kogi East.

“It is expected that the government will hearken to the cry of citizens to end the menace of recurrent kidnappings in Kogi State,” said Barr. Michael.
