THE Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) says it is committed to using modern tools to secure the country’s logistics space from illicit activities, making it secure and trustworthy.

This is contained in a statement signed by NIPOST’s Director of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Musa, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Musa said that the agency was committed to leveraging technological tools to sanitise Nigeria’s postal and logistics network.

According to him, recently, NIPOST had intercepted a consignment of seven pouches of cannabis that arrived in Lagos from Bangkok, Thailand.

Musa said this was a fundamental step toward ensuring NIPOST becomes a secure and reliable channel for commerce and communication, serving as a key player in a modern, trusted logistics ecosystem.

“The seizure serves as a concrete example of the agency’s commitment to securing the nation’s logistics space from illicit activities.

“The interception highlights a strategic shift within NIPOST, as the agency moves to leverage technology to combat threats,” he said.

According to him, this operational success resulted from close collaboration between NIPOST and other relevant security agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

“By working together and using advanced screening techniques, they can detect contraband and illegal substances before they enter circulation,” he said.

Musa added that NIPOST’s actions aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, prioritising national security and the fight against crime.

He said NIPOST’s resolve to protect its network was a vital contribution to this broader national effort to safeguard public trust and ensure the integrity of the country’s infrastructure.

“Our proactive security measures aim to transform the postal system into a trusted channel for commerce and communication,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NIPOST had earlier invested in advanced scanning equipment to detect contraband at the Lagos International Airport.

The organisation is also implementing a digital system that provides every package with a unique ID for an end-to-end tracking.(NAN)
