SPEAKER of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, has visited some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps to identify and commiserate with victims of recent unfortunate attacks on defenseless citizens in parts of the State, which resulted in the loss of lives and displacement of thousands of households.
Leading Principal Officers and Members of the House on the separate visits, the Speaker assured the displaced persons of the commitment of the Tenth Assembly under his leadership to work closely with other arms of government and relevant stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the challenges of peace and security across Plateau State.
A release by the Philip Eplong, Press Secretary to the Speaker,issued on 14th September, 2025, said the visit followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance raised on the floor of the House, drawing attention to the rising wave of violent attacks in Barkin Ladi, Nteng in Qua’an Pan, and other affected communities.
The House called on both State and Federal Governments to direct relevant security agencies to intensify efforts in curbing the persistent assaults on defenseless citizens. Speaking at the different camps, Speaker Daniel told the displaced persons that: “What affects you affects us as a House. We are here to stand with you in this difficult time. That is what necessitated this visit.” He encouraged the citizens
to live in peace, stressing that government would not relent in its commitment to safeguard lives and property.
he Speaker’s first stop was the Palace of the Da Gwom Rwei of Fan, Da Iliya Dashua, where he conveyed the Assembly’s empathy and solidarity with the victims.
He emphasized that despite the setbacks, the House remains resolute in working with all relevant authorities to restore peace and security.
He also made a cash donation to assist victims at the IDPs camp.
Responding, Da Gwom Rwei of Fan expressed appreciation to the Speaker and Members for their concern and solidarity in this difficult time.
He recalled that the incessant killings in his domain had persisted since 2001, lamenting that while governments at all levels invest in infrastructure, attackers destroy lives and properties at will.
He urged Peace-Building Agencies to intensify grassroots engagement, stressing that this was the first time in the history of the district that a Speaker and Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly had visited.
The Speaker and his team also visited Jing village in Pankshin Local Government Area, where he gave financial support to the inhabitants of the locality and encouraged youths to embrace peaceful coexistence, and dialogue as the best approach to resolving disputes.
In Qua’an Pan, the delegation was received by the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Christopher Manship, represented by his Deputy, Chrysantus Kangshal and proceeded to the Palace of the Long Pan, where the Acting Chairman of the Traditional Council, Long Jan, Miskoom Safiyanu Allanana, received them.
Addressing the Council, the Speaker said he and Members of the House came with a deep sense of grief to commiserate with the people over the gruesome killings and displacement of their loved ones.
He assured that the Assembly had already communicated its resolutions to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, both chambers of the National Assembly, relevant security agencies, and NEMA/SEMAforthe provision of relief materials. The IDPs expressed gratitude to the Speaker and the House for their visit, describing it as a sign of true leadership and solidarity with Plateau citizens.
The Speaker further visited the Palace of the Long Teh I, Donald Puntel, in Mikang.
