From JIDAUNA DARING, Angware

The Chairman of Jos East Local Government Council (LGC) of Plateau State, Mr Markus Nyam, has restated his administration’s determination to provide more physical infrastructural development that would have a direct bearing on the lives of the people in his locality.

Nyam made this disclosure during an empowerment programme designed to mark his 49th birthday, held recently at the council secretariat, Angware.

He said that his administration had also been sensitive to the plight and wishes of the less privileged.

“This informs our decision to ameliorate the hardship of widows and the elderly who are at the receiving end of harsh economic conditions, insecurity, and social discrimination,” he stated.

As part of his visionary leadership, the chairman presented exercise books for onward distribution to schools across the LGA.

Nyam also presented ten motorcycles to conventional and non-conventional security outfits to ease their operations and reciprocate the party’s efforts.

In addition, he presented ten motorcycles to ten ward chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), acknowledging their concerted efforts and urging them to continue working so that their people could feel the impact of democratic dividends in the locality.

The chairman appreciated the giant strides of the traditional institution and security operatives for their selfless efforts towards sustainable peaceful coexistence in the local government area.

He added that with his people’s continuous support and cooperation, “We will leave Jos East better than we met it and usher in the golden era of progress, growth, and desired development in the LG.”

Nyam pointed out that, in spite of daunting challenges, remarkable progress had been made in various sectors, including education, agriculture, health, provision of social amenities and infrastructural development.

“It will interest you to know that all projects executed were done based on the requests of communities,” he added.

The chairman also appreciated Governor Mutfwang of Plateau State for not tampering with LG funds, saying that this had enabled them to succeed in their noble governance tasks.

“Let me also say that the governor’s developmental strides in the state, with Jos East inclusive, are worthy of commendation,” Nyam stated.

He further acknowledged the contribution of the PDP and citizens of the LG, particularly the electorate, on whose mandate they stand.

Nyam appreciated the chairmen of Riyom, Jos South, Jos North, Kanke, Mikang and other invited guests who graced the event.

Speaking separately, former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkon, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Caroline Dafur, and Chairman of Jos South LGC, Silas Dung, all congratulated Nyam on his 49th birthday and his modest achievements within one year in office.

They maintained that the empowerment programme further demonstrated the chairman’s love for his people, adding that the gesture covered all aspects of life.

In his remarks, the Agwom Izere, Isaac Wakili, while wishing the council chairman a happy birthday, advised him to embrace all and sundry irrespective of tribe, religion or party differences, so as to move the LG to greater heights.

In seperate interviews with THE NIGERIA STANDARD, some of the beneficiaries expressed excitement over the various empowerment items received and prayed for God’s blessings upon the chairman, wishing him many more fruitful years ahead.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of a Sharon Bus to the LG party office, wrappers to widows, blankets to the elderly, motorcycles to both party and security groups, exercise books to schools and goodwill messages from the state PDP Chairman, Chris Hassan, among others.
