First Lady empowers 500 Plateau women traders with grants

Nigeria’s First Lady and National Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has disbursed N50,000 to 500 women traders across the 17 local government areas (LGAs) of Plateau State to boost their businesses.

he event took place at La Sharp Event Centre, Rayfield, Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Monday.

The gesture was in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Senator Tinubu explained that the disbursement of the Small Business Recapitisation Grant was designed to promote women’s entrepreneurship, strengthen small-scale businesses as well as aid the economic development of the state and the country at large.

Disbursing the grants, the wife of the president, who was represented by the wife of the Plateau State Governor, who doubles as the State Coordinator of RHI, Barrister Mrs Helen Mutfwang, appreciated the Tony Elumelu Foundation for donating N1 billion to support 18,500 women across the 36 states in the country and the Federal Capital Territory through the Women Economic Empowerment Programme of the RHI.

Earlier, in a welcome address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Caroline Dafur, appreciated the president’s wife and the Plateau State First Lady for their commitment towards improving the welfare of women in society.

Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the kind gesture and promised to use the money judiciously.
