In continuation of its efforts to sensitise road users, motorists and the general public on the need to obey road traffic rules and regulations, especially during the ‘Ember Months’, the Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Joseph Udoabba, has urged motorists to always utilise road traffic signposts while driving.

Udoabba made this call recently during the unveiling of FRSC billboards at the Riyom Local Government Council Secretariat.

He pointed out that the billboards were intended for the general public, not just Riyom Local Government Area indigenes and advised citizens using the roads to be cautious, particularly on the Hawan Kibo axis, which had claimed many lives due to disobedience of road traffic rules.

He noted that the billboards were part of the Commission’s Social Corporate Responsibility (SCR) and called on the public to cherish and protect them from destruction.

He encouraged citizens to dial the toll-free number (122) in case of road accidents, assuring them that the unit was available to respond to distress calls.

In a speech delivered by Ezekiel Danbwarang, Supervisory Councillor on Budget of Riyom Local Government Council, representing Mr Shuwa Bature Sati, the Local Government Chairman, extended his gratitude to the Federal Road Safety Corps for donating the billboards to the Council.

He stressed that, “This initiative aims to ensure citizen safety through campaigns, educating the public on the dangers of disobeying road traffic rules.”

The chairman disclosed that he was passionate about the local government’s people’s safety and assured the FRSC that they would protect the billboards, emphasising that life was precious and irreplaceable.

He commended FRSC personnel for their tireless efforts to safeguard citizens from road accidents and urged citizens to utilise the billboards while travelling, especially during the Ember Months.

THE NIGERIA STANDARD reports that the programme drew a large turnout of local government secretariat staff, other security agencies and well-wishers.

The Unit Commander of FRSC, Hawan Kibo Command, Calvin Akaagerger, appreciated the council chairman’s support for FRSC.

He stated that public enlightenment was crucial for the Commission to achieve its goals and believed the billboards would significantly contribute to saving lives within the Hawan Kibo area.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of an award to the chairman for his support and partnership with FRSC in saving lives, particularly within Riyom Local Government Area, the gateway to the state capital.
