The newly re-elected Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Regional Church Council (RCC), Zawan, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Reverend Adamu Gyang, has urged widows to place their trust in God rather than in man.
Reverend Gyang, who also serves as the Leading Pastor of COCIN Local Church Council (LCC) Anguldi, made the appeal during the Widows’ Day Sunday Service held recently at LCC Anguldi-Zawan.
Drawing his text from Psalm 68:5 and preaching on the theme, ‘Caring for Widows: A Social Responsibility of the Church’, the cleric underscored the need for the Church to defend the voiceless and marginalised in society.
He decried the manner in which some widows were mistreated by their late husbands’ relatives, particularly when subjected to the harsh ultimatum to either remarry or vacate their homes.
“Our God is a Father of the fatherless and a defender of the widows,” Reverend Gyang declared.
He admonished Christians to avoid deceitful acts in their various responsibilities, reminding them that everyone would render an account of their stewardship on Judgement Day.
Speaking on behalf of the widows, Mrs Helen T. Johnny expressed profound gratitude to the congregation for their consistent support and prayers, asking God to bless and replenish their efforts.
