A tragic incident has thrown the University of Jos community into mourning, as one student has allegedly killed another in his residence at Rusau village, Farin-Gada, in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred over the weekend, involved Nanpon Timnan, a 200-level student of Agricultural Science, who allegedly killed Peter Mafuyai, a 300-level student of Banking and Finance.
Both were said to be living in off-campus apartments within the same neighbourhood.
Residents told journalists that the two students had engaged in an argument before the situation turned violent.
“We heard loud noise from the house, but before we could get there, it was already too late,” said a neighbour who preferred to remain anonymous.
Another student in the area described the event as “very frightening,” adding that many students living in Rusau Village were now afraid for their safety.
“We’ve never experienced something like this before. Everyone is scared because we don’t really know what happened,” she said.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern among students and community members, with calls for a thorough police investigation to ensure justice.
“We urge security agencies to dig deep into the matter and prevent a repeat of this kind of tragedy,” said a student leader from the Faculty of Social Sciences.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement, though sources confirmed that the suspect was already in police custody.
The university authorities were also expected to comment on the matter as investigations continued.
