The Plateau Publishing Corporation (PPC), publishers of THE NIGERIA STANDARD titles, has defended its 2026 fiscal-year budget before the Plateau State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Information.
Presenting the figures, the General Manager, Mr Chris Gyang, outlined a revenue projection of N47 million, a recurrent expenditure of N83,570,000, a capital outlay of N339,063,140, and a personnel cost of N2,551,103,202.
He explained that the projections were aimed at enabling the Corporation achieve its set goals, particularly by boosting revenue generation and fully digitalising its newspaper operations by 2026.
Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon Matthew Kwarpo Sylvanus (Mangu South Constituenc6y), urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under his committee’s supervision to intensify revenue generation efforts ahead of the 2026 target.
He noted that the governor’s budget proposal of N914.86 billion, up from the revised 2025 budget of N609.18 billion, represented a significant increase for the state.
Our corresponedent reports that the 2026 budget, designed to tackle insecurity and economic challenges, aligned with Governor Mutfwang’s Plateau State Strategic Development Framework, which prioritised diversification, institutional reform, human-capital development, infrastructure and urban renewal.
Hon Sylvanus highlighted that the 2025 budget allocated N137.71 billion to salaries and recurrent costs and N44.04 billion to capital projects, while the 2026 proposal earmarks N341.41 billion for recurrent spending and N573.45 billion for capital development.
He described the allocations as crucial to economic growth and stability.
The budget defence session also featured presentations from the Ministry of Information and Communication, Plateau Printing Press (PPP), Plateau State Library Board, Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), Plateau State Disability Rights Commission, Plateau Independent Electoral Commission, the Muslim and Christian pilgrims boards, Ministry of Housing, Plateau State Fire Service, Jos Main Market Authority, and the Ministry of Women Affairs, among others.
The ongoing budget defence, which commenced on November 20, 2025, is scheduled to conclude on December 2, 2025.
The Appropriation Committee of the House is expected to submit its final report to the Assembly on December 18, 2025.
