The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has announced its participation in the international campaign marking the 16 Days of Activism on the Elimination of Violence against Women, the State Coordinator, Kyempiya Mafuyai, disclosed.

She stated that this year’s campaign would run from November 25 to December 10, 2025, under the theme, ‘UNITE to End Digital Violence against Women and Girls’.

The theme highlights a growing global concern over the misuse of digital platforms to perpetrate harassment, abuse and exploitation, which undermine the safety, dignity and gender equality of women and girls both online and offline, the NHRC said in a statement signed by its coordinator.

“In line with its mandate—promoting and protecting human rights as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution, the African Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other international treaties—the NHRC will host a series of activities in Plateau State to mark the occasion,” the statement revealed.

These activities included a flag‑off ceremony, a stakeholders’ meeting with government officials, civil‑society groups and development partners, as well as a youth‑focused dialogue aimed at empowering young activists to champion the cause.

Speaking on the upcoming activities, NHRC Plateau State Coordinator, Mrs. Aisha Mohammed, said: “Digital violence is a silent epidemic that threatens the rights of half our population.”

She added that by uniting policymakers, community leaders and young people, “we can create a safer online environment and reinforce a culture of respect for women’s and girls’ rights.”

The Commission also called on media houses, NGOs, academic institutions and the general public to amplify the message of ending digital violence against women and girls.
