AN Information Technology expert, Mr Adamu Musa, has called for the integration of Information Technology (IT) into school curricula at the elementary level.

Musa, of Artifil Limited, an Abuja based tech hub, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja on Wednesday.

He said that integrating transformative technology into school curricula at elementary level would better equip students for the future and empower them early to develop innovative solutions.

According to him, several countries have already incorporated IT into their educational programmes at both the school and university levels.

”Artificial Intelligence (AI) is most beneficial when introduced to students early in their education. So stakeholders should call for a comprehensive plan that includes curriculum development, assessment methods, and teacher training in information technology.”

He advocated that the Ministry of Education and other educational authorities adopt diverse strategic plans to maximise the benefits of IT education, including developing advanced educational methodologies.

”The curricula should target integrated programmes covering programming, data analysis, and machine learning, with a focus on practical applications,’’ he said.

He also said that given the increasing demand for IT specialists, early education in the field would provide students with a competitive advantage in the job market.

”By gaining knowledge and experience early, students will be better equipped for future jobs that may require advanced skills in this field.

” Teaching AI in schools is not just an addition to the curriculum, but rather an investment in the future of students, providing them with skills that will contribute to the advancement of society,’’ he added.

Musa emphasised that IT was not limited to manufacturing and services, but also being used in many different areas, including education as a tool and method to advance learning.

He said by using IT, schools help students and teachers learn and teach more effectively, thereby making them ”smart”.

”Artificial intelligence has become an integral part of our lives and has affected them in a way that we did not believe was possible before.

”From sports to business to education, IT has revolutionised how we work and learn, providing tremendous potential for learners of all ages,’’ he further said.

He added that as education technology advances, information technology’s role in research and education would only expand. (NAN)
