Abubakar, Onaiyekan call for sustenance of  Plateau Peace Day

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar (III) and the Arch Bishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Olorunfemi Onaiyekan have called for the sustenance of the Plateau and Forgiveness Day.

They made the call in Jos on Tuesday February 7th 2023, at the at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium while marking the 2023 celebrations of the day.

In his remarks at the forum, the Sultan, who commended the Governor for initiating the day, said without peace, there can be no development in any society.

“You can’t do anything in your life without peace, and without peace, you cannot forgive”.

Archbishop Onaiyekan represented by Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama said he is happy to be back home to Jos and said he was also part of the first celebrations initiated by the Governor.

He said peace and forgiveness are twins which cannot be separated and hoped that the day will be sustained.

He commended all those who are working to stem the tide of crisis and hostilities on the Plateau and the country.

Governor Lalong, accompanied by former Governors, traditional rulers present performed the unveiling of the Gazette on the creation of Districts and Chiefdoms, handing over of Faith Based Schools to original owners, Unveiling of Plateau State Symbols and identity and some symbolic Presentations.

Among the symbolic presentations the Governor did was the unveiling of a new Logo, State Anthem, and new emblem to replace the one instituted by the Military.

Lalong expressed happiness on the level of peace and harmonious coexistence that has taken place in the state as the state marks its 47th years of existence.

He appreciated the special guests, traditional rulers, religious leaders, former Governors, and other stakeholders that graced the occasion.
