THE All Progressive Congress (APC) Forum of Former Plateau State House of Assembly Members, has unanimously threw their weight behind election of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Yakson Sanda, as the Speaker describing the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Ayuba Abok by members of State House of Assembly as constitutional.
The forum stated this while addressing Journalists at the press briefing organized by the leadership of the forum, held at the Place of Peace Investment Bukuru Express in Jos-South Local Government Areas of Plateau State, Thursday.
The Chairman of the forum, Hon. Balahel Andong, said, “as stakeholders in the “Plateau Project” and more so that the House of Assembly, our constituency, we have been watching the unfolding event in the past days as a result of change of leadership in the house. We feel we need to add our voice and make our position clear.
“The forum views the election of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Yakson Sanda as a product of devine ordination which unveiled to men in fashion designed by the most High. As parliamentarians who are familiar with the house rules and constitutional provision in the administration of the legislature, we want to state that:
“The impeachment of the Rt. Hon. Ayuba Abok meets the constitutional requirement of Section 92 (C) CFRN 1999 (As amended). This is because 16 out of 24 members signed for his impeachment on the 28 October, 2021 which is 2/3 majority”, the Chairman highlighted.
He, however, described information making the rounds that eight (8) members of the house signed for the impeachment of the former speaker, as unfounded and misleading, because more than eight members were present at the planery which was more than the required number of a quorum.
The forum, according to forum chairman, wished to draw the attention of Senator Jonah Jang, Sen. Bukola Saraki, Sen. ID Gyang and the Lagos State House of Assembly in the spirit of parliamentarians to always cross check this facts correctly before delving into conclusion saying, “if we may ask, why are the PDP in the state crying more than the bereaved.
“We enjoin all ourboarty faithful to rally round and support the leadership of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Yakson Sanda, Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly and against any form of impunity and injustice that will tarnish the image and integrity of the party and state at large”, he stressed.
