BASG poised to change out-of-school children narrative

Stakeholders in the education sector from within and outside Bauchi State gathered in Bauchi for a two day education summit under the Chairmanship of Prof. Bogoro.
The summit is aimed at providing a road map to deal with the perennial challenges of the education sector in the state.

The summit, which was titled Improving Access to Quality Education, would provide an opportunity for the participants to brainstorm and proffer solutions to the challenges identified to enable the state to align with locally acceptable ways of building the capacity of teachers especially at the basic education level.

The two day summit organised by the state Ministry of Education, was planned to serve as an avenue for formulating policies and to mobilise the required resources through engagement of all relevant stakeholders towards providing equitable access to education that would guarantee the future of the younger generation.

Governor Bala Mohammed, while declaring the summit open, unfolded that challenges in the decay in infrastructure, inadequate training of teachers and as well as the growing number of out of school children in the state, was responsible for taking the decision to organise the summit.

He explained that the commitment made by his administration in addressing the ugly trend include construction of over five thousand classrooms, approving the employment of three thousand teachers and increase in budgetary provision to the sector.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu who described education as key to sustainable development, assured that the federal government remained resolute to supporting the state in line with the eight point agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration aimed at restoring the quality of education.

SUNDAY STANDARD reports that the occasion featured goodwill messages from representatives of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETfund, National Centre for Colleges of Education, NCCE and United States Agency for International Development, USAID, Including the former Minister of Education, Prof. Rukaiyatu Rufa’i.
