Citizens call on Sule to fulfill campaign promises

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has been enjoined to facilitate the take-off of the various industries he promised the people of the state to enable them  have access to jobs and wealth creation.

A Keffi based political activist and a staunch member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Hon. Salisu Saidu gave the advice while interacting with members of the press about the state of unemployment in the state and the need to redress the situation.

He believed that the take-off of the proposed industries which are agrarian in nature would help significantly in creating spaces for the employment of thousands of unemployed youths both directly and indirectly, thus, creating an opportunity for the upliftment of the people’s socio-economic activities or status.

On its part, the state government stressed the need for it to employ more hands especially on areas that vacancies exist especially in the health and education sectors that are highly short in manpower.

He observed that the recent scramble for teaching jobs by thousands of graduates from across the state clearly indicates that the high rate of unemployment has become highly alarming and that the need to address the situation now has also become imperative.

Hon. Saidu who lamented that the situation has affected all other sectors in the state stressed the need for the state government to do something positive  with a view to address the situation, stressing that since it has available space some of the graduate or even non graduate should be considered and employed.

He also advised the state government to consider setting up of skills acquisition centres across the state to enable the youths acquire skills to become self employed instead of being job seekers.

 

NSSG steps up sensitization on cholera

NASARAWA State Government has declared its readiness to embark on preventive health care services through the active sensitization of its people against the ravaging cholera disease causing serious havoc to the lives of the people across the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Primary Healthcare Service, Princess Margaret Elayo, made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Masaka, Karu Local Government Area during the flag-off of Free Medical Outreach sponsored by the Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area, Hon. James Thomas during the week.

She stated that already efforts were put in place towards an active sensitization of the people especially people in the rural areas to enable them adopt hygienic measures like the constant washing of their hands after visiting the toilets, avoidance of open defecations, water and households sanitations among others.

Elayo also stated that the sensitization programme also includes the free distribution of water guard to ensure the cleanliness of their domestic water as well as others like the hand sanitizers, toiletries among others.

The SSA who assured that the Engineer Abdullahi Sule led administration is committed to the provision of qualitative healthcare services to the people however tasked them to key into the efforts with a view to stay healthy.

While commending the Chairmanship candidate of the APC for what she described as a laudable and people’s oriented initiatives, she therefore advised the people of the area to give him all the necessary support by electing him to enable him do the good work.

 

Polytechnic expels 51 students

THE Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa in Nasarawa State, has expelled 51 students for examination malpractice during the 2019/2020 academic session.

This is contained in a statement issued by Malam Uba Mana, the polytechnic’s Director of Information, Publicity and Protocol and made available to newsmen during the week.

Mana said that the affected students were expelled following approval by the academic board of the institution.

“The affected students were expelled on the ground of various offences of examination misconduct that involved both full time and part time students and the students expelled are from the Higher National Diploma and National Diploma in Engineering courses, Accounting, Science Lab Tech, Library and Information Science, Mass Communication among others,” he said.

Mana also stated that the Rector of the institution, Dr Abdullahi Ahmed has directed the expelled students to handover all documents belonging to the polytechnic to their departmental heads.

The rector enjoined all students of the polytechnic to shun all forms of examination malpractices and other social vices, to strengthen the growth and development of the institution.
