COCIN urged on Karl Kumm impasse

GOVERNOR Simon Lalong of Plateau State has appealed to the leadership of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) to work towards the amicable resolution of the current impasse which led to the suspension of the operational license of the Karl Kuum University.

Lalong who made the appeal while declaring open the 100th General Church Council (GCC)of the Church holding at the Church’s Headquarters in Jos, Wednesday, expressed sadness over the event that led to the suspension of the license and academic activities in the the University noting that the much happiness and joy that greeted the approval has become a thing of concern not only to the Church but the people of the state, Nigeria and the world.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy Professor Sonni Tyoden called on the church to expedite action and resolve the issues as quickly as possible for normalcy to return to the institution.

The General Church Council is being attended by Provincial Church Council and Regional Church Council members within COCIN to enable the Church reflect on the past achievements and focus on the future, has no theme but outlined a number of national issues including politics and sentiments as well as the state of the nation with insecurity, inflation and corruption which must be addressed by the government.

Lalong applauded efforts of the founding fathers of the Karl Kumm University which spanned close to two decades to put it in place should not be allowed to go through this situation.

According to the governor, “We will continue to appreciate you as men of God who have been called to look after his people by standing in the gap”. Adding that the church shouldn’t be in isolation from the society.

President, Church of Christ in Nations,Rev Professor, Dachollom Datiri who spoke on the achievements of the church within the period under review said among other things, the church is set to inaugurate more (PCC) in January next year and called on RCCs who were yet to give their contribution for Missions to Nations to do so.

While on suspension of the license of Karl Kumm University, he said the  University was supposed to have taken-off in September this year and described the situation as most unfortunate blaming it on mischief makers who were bent on ensuring that the University didn’t take off.

Datiri spoke on dangers of political sentiments which threaten its  existance as well as insecurity, inflation and corruption describing them as enemy of Nigeria.
