GOVERNOR of Adamawa State Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri says it is sad to note that data generated by the National Population Commission meant for effective development planning are not being utilized by those that are supposed to use them.

He pointed out that government Ministries Departments and Agencies that are expected to be clamouring for such data are not forthcoming and copies of publications given to relevant ministries and agencies continue to gather dust on shelves and tables in government offices and they continue to plan in the dark.

The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff Professor Maxwell Gidado at the Nyako Centre on the occasion of a stakeholders meeting organized by the National Population Commission (NCP) Monday.

Fintiri however noted that the summit underscores the determination, commitment and readiness of the present commission to deliver on its mandate to conduct a credible, reliable and acceptable census.

This, he said is reinforced through the daily registration of births, deaths and migrations.

Furthermore, such regular collection and dissemination of data ensures that a detailed and up to date information on the characteristics of our population are captured and made available for planning purposes.

Earlier the National Commissioner National Population Commission Adamawa State, Dr. Clifford Zirra assured both government and stakeholders that the commission remains committed to the conduct of a credible and acceptable census that will be transformational and meet international standards.
