FrontFoot to train journalists on media audit reporting

No fewer than fourty journalists from Gombe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Plateau and Taraba states will gather in Gombe, the Gombe State capital for the fifth edition of the Audit Reporting Training programme for working journalists.

Organised by FrontFoot Media Initiative, the training is under the auspices of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and is being sponsored by MacArthur Foundation.

According to Emeka Izeze, Director of FrontFoot Media, the Gombe State Governor, Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya is billed to address the journalists in line with an agenda of openness and accountability.

In a statement sent to our correspondent, Mr. Izeze said, “This is a testament to the inclusivity and reach of FrontFoot’s training initiatives and we look forward to training about 40 media personnel, each of whom plays a crucial role in our media landscape”.

The lead Resource Person for the workshop will be Mr. Ismaila Zakari, a former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) who is also an Internal Auditor of Premium Pensions, Abuja.

Zakari will be supported by Mr. Yusuf Doma, an ICAN Fellow and also an Internal Auditor at Premium Pensions, Abuja.

It is expected that the expertise and guidance of the two professionals will ensure a high-quality learning experience for all journalists that will be present.

Training Coordinator, FrontFoot Media Initiative, Mr Chido Nwakanma said, “FrontFoot team is accompanied by experts in the field who have worked in pre-selected states where they conduct free training for journalists.”

“Participants will learn how and where to locate the relevant reports, interpret the material and write engaging news stories and features that enlighten, stimulate, empower the electorate and discourage impunity”, Mr. Chido added.
