Henwan to support handball association

IN an effort to promote sports in Plateau State, the General Manager, Plateau United Football Club of Jos, Pius Henwan has assured the Plateau State Handball Association of his maximum support in order for them to succeed in their coming competition latter in the year.

He gave the assurance when the association presented an award of excellence to him, saying without the association he won’t have ben where he is today.

The award presentation which held at the Handball Court of the Rwang Pam  Township Stadium, recently witnessed the presence of the Director of Sports, the Management of  sports council, Chairman of the association, among others dignitaries.

Henwan expressed happiness with the award, stated that, it will spur him to do more.

”I am overwhelmed with the award, because I never expected it, I started my carrier from this association when I was employed in the sport council and I never knew they were watching me, I am very happy.

´I started here as a sport administrator and there is no way I can forget in promoting sports. So I will do everything humanly possible to develop sports on the Plateau, as Plateau United is moving forward, I will carry them along to enable them move to the next level,” he said.

When commenting on the feat of Plateau United, the General Manager emphasized that the secret of the club’s achievement is hard work.

“If you are giving an assignment to do, you need to be sincere and with the support getting from the press, the Governor who is the captain of the club and my colleagues, who have been telling me what to do and not to do. I am not forgetting the Technical Director of the team, coach bros, he has been by my side, helping financially and other wise,” he maintained.

He further disclosed that they are preparing hard for the CAF Champions league which will kick-off next month.

“We are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that we start the champions league from the beginning to the end, we are recruiting players to fill in the gap of those we don’t have, in order to reach the group stages of the championship”, he ended.

Also, Simon Moven, Director of Sports, Plateau State Sports Coucil described the award as well deserved.

”The General Manager was one time secretary of the association and he did well, he has been assisting them for a longtime, so, I think this award is in the right direction,” he said.

He urged them to be serious in their training as they have many competition ahead in order to make the state proud.

Earlier, Cyprin Donjur, chairman of the association, said that the players have to put more effort to enable them win more medals to the state.

”These players standing before us, have been doing their best, but is not good enough in the sense that more need to be done, they need to stretch a bit in order to do better.

“I have witnessed a number of competitions they played, but somethings are lacking and their performance was not too encouraging,” he said.

He disclosed that the board of the association will continue to do its best in ensuring that the players are motivated to enable them make the state proud.
