Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has stated that his administration will focus majorly on security of lives and property. He also promised to run an inclusive government, carry out institutional reforms and address challenges faced by youth, women and people with disabilities.

Kefas made this disclosure in his speech on Monday during his inauguration as the 6th Executive Governor of Taraba State at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, the state capital.

Kefas and the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, had taken the oath of office administered by the state acting Chief Judge, Justice Joel Agya.

He said: “One of the major challenges that bedevil us in this state is insecurity. A dominant objective of this government is to maintain security and protect citizens from internal and external forces. Security provides an enabling platform for the equitable distribution of resources and just living conditions for our people. We need safety and security to pursue our legitimate aspirations and goals. To ensure security, it is paramount that we work closely with local and federal security agencies”.

The governor also stated that he was open to constructive criticism, social justice, welfare and equity and called on Tarabans to put their differences aside.

“I ask all to put our differences aside and come together as one to move Taraba forward. The task of governance can only be successful when it is inclusive. When it effectively serves and engages all people from all walks of life. When it effectively serves and engages all people from all walks of life. Our success demands that we carry out wholesale reforms of our institutions, policies, processes and services.

“My administration is open to working with all of you and would always welcome constructive criticism. We will work closely with civil society, the private sector and development partners to create a platform for a mutually beneficial relationship.

“My passion for Taraba is driven by a deep commitment to social justice, welfare and equity. As such, one of my key priorities will be to address the specific challenges faced by our youths, women, and people living with disabilities,” Kefas stated.

He also promised to “work with the international community to showcase the opportunities that exist in our land” and lead the people “with vision, integrity, transparency and courage by fostering a culture of trust and ethics”.
