Investigate selection process of Rekna of Bashar Chiefdom

A group, under the aegis of Concerned Stakeholders in Bashar Chiefdom of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, has made a passionate appeal to Governor Caleb Mutfwang to investigate the selection process of the Rekna of Bashar Chiefdom.

The group made the appeal Monday through its spokesman, Shehu Mujahid Abubakar, while addressing journalists at a press briefing in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The spokesman explained that the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of Governor Simon Bako Lalong, established a committee to oversee the selection process, according to established rules and regulations in 2022, but was flaunted by the former Council Chairman of Wase LGA.

He added that the constituted committee visited Bashar town on November 26, 2022, to brief the kingmakers on the selection process and, thereafter, government scheduled December 2, 2022, as the official selection date.

“However, the then Council Chairman of Wase Local Government Council, Dr. Ado Abubakar Buba, bypassed protocol by inviting the kingmakers to his office where he held meetings with some of them under pressure,” the spokesman alleged.

“This action really contradicts the Plateau State Chieftaincy Laws and a formal complaint outlining these irregularities was submitted to the former governor, Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, but to no avail,” Abubakar lamented.

The group blamed the failure of the former governor to respond appropriately to their complaint due to alleged political affiliation with the former chairman’s preferred candidate.

They called on the Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to order the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Review Committee to investigate the complaints arising from the irregularities that surrounded the selection.
