May 29: Two-day prayer and fasting declared in Taraba

A two day prayer and fasting has been declared by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba towards the success of the May 29 inauguration and God’s protection for the incoming government and the state in general.

In the iterinary of events issued to the media on Thursday, a Jumat prayer would be held for the inauguration while a Christian service will take place on Sunday. 

The CAN in Taraba has however followed up with announcements all over the airwaves in Taraba for Christians to undertake on a prayer and fasting begining from Friday 26 May to Sunday May 28.

Already, a valedictory session has been held earlier in the week by Governor Darius Ishaku but the cabinet has not yet been dissolved, The Nigeria Standard has learnt.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Iliya Bekyu has confirmed to The Nigeria Standard that the governor has not handed over to the Governor-elect, Agbu Kefas.

About the security arrangements for the event, the police in Taraba has assured of a hitch free event and that they are acting on the intelligence report by the DSS that some states are prone to crisis.

“We have deployed men to cover the venue, in and out and we have also posted men on patrols within the town and environs. 

“We are going to experience a hitch free event. Intelligence prepares us to deploy our security architecture and to make sure we don’t take things for granted,” police spokesman, Abdullahi Usman hinted.
