Northern Elders forum (NEF) has called on political parties that find Northern Presidential Candidates deserving to fly their flags, and should not be intimidated by scare tactics that they would lose southern votes.
The forum in a press statement signed by its spoke man. Dr Hakeem Baba – Ahmed titled “ Threats from southern socio – cultural Groups” which was made available to news man in Abuja states that the Northern Elders Forum had observed attempts to heighten tension by some southern socio – cultural groups determined to stampede Nigerians into observing the fundamental principles of the democratic process.
Northern Elders Forum (NEF) said it had faith that Nigeria can produce good leaders who will lead it out o fits current challenges if the entire nation opens up to the emerge of the best candidates who do not bear ethnic or regional labels.
The forum appealed to southern politician seeking the support of Northern voters to assure them that they do no t share the dooms day scenario socio – cultural groups.
“NEF does not believe that these elders speak for serious aspirants and prospective southern candidates when they threatened even the survival of the country they aspire to lead unless they have their way”. The statement said.
The forum noted that the vigorous campaigns by aspirants from every part of the south against each other ought to remind these elderly Nigerian that zoning is retrogressive unworkable and anti – democratic.
