Parents told to inculcate godly values in children

PARENTS have been advised to always inculcate godly values and virtues in their children, since their training starts from the home.

A lecturer with the Department of Religion and Philosophy, University of Jos, Rev. Dr. Philip Asura Nggada gave the admonition during the speech and prize giving day of St. Luke’s Anglican College, Kufang-Jos, last Saturday.

Rev. Dr. Nggada while presenting paper with the title; “The making of an eagle” said that the eagle has been noted as a symbol of strength, bravery, zeal and courage.

He maintained that, it is much easier when the child receives formidable training at home,  adding that, once that breaking the fallow ground is done, teachers can easily mold and impart knowledge to the child.

Rev. Dr. Nggada said that the school activities are designed in good faith in order to help the ward grow and  develop skills mentally, socially emotionally, psychologically, physically, academically and spiritually, adding that, all these contribute  to making the ward have a great sense of maturity, responsibility and independence.

He explained that, the quality of spiritual life is the foundation for every lasting success, which remains the springboard for successful learning.

Rev. Dr Nggada told the grandaunts that, they have been fully equipped to face the outside world, saying that, their teachers have molded them and urged them not to forget the training they received and equally challenged the graduates to use the knowledge instilled in them in a way that it would profit them and their immediate environment.

He encouraged the graduants to be agents of change, transformation, good ambassadors of  peace, good moral, honesty, faithful, humane, and conscientious with character in their  new world, stressing that, the quality of their spiritual life is the energy that takes  them beyond their local environment.

Rev. Dr. Nggada challenged People to all return to God to derive the biblical basis and principles of living that is informative, educative, and transformative that would be able to change the world of art, technology, education, social sciences, religion and politics.

In their separate remarks, chairman of the occasion, Dr Emmanuel Mangset and the school PTA chairman, Mr Alex Sati Bako both commended staff of the college for their hard work and urged students to always have faith in God over dark moments in their lives, and also advised them to continue reading hard, so as to maintain the standard that the school is known for in terms of good performance.

Earlier in her welcome remarks acting principal of the college, Ojo Olufunke appreciated the school management, Board of advisory Committee, Parents’ Teachers Association (PTA) Exco and all parents for their various support and cooperation.

Olufunke said that, their role as a school was not only to pursue academic excellence but to also motivate and empower their students to be productive members of an ever changing society by preparing them to face challenges that the future holds.

She added that, ST. Luke’s Anglican College provides an atmosphere for their students for multifaceted development where they are encouraged to channel their potential in the pursuit of excellence, saying that, academic excellence is their major thrust, as the school was also devoted to grooming them, adding that, the staff are opened to any form of cogent and inspiring inquiry from the students to promote intellectual growth and creativity.

The out gone head boy of the school, Stephen Garba  who spoke on behalf of the graduates expressed joy and  thanked the teachers for imparting the needed knowledge to them and  assured the  school that the graduants would continue to be  of good behavior wherever they  find themselves, especially now that  they have been sent out  to the wider society.
