PLASU graduates 1352 students, 6 first class degree

THE Plateau State University Bokkos is set to graduate over one thousand, three hundred fifty-two (1352) with six first class honour degrees tomorrow on the occasion of 6th and 7th Combined Convocation in line with the University Commission.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Yohanna Daniel Izam, disclosed this yesterday while addressing journalists at the pre-convocation media briefing, held at the Senate Chamber of the University Bokkos.

He said, “the convocation will feature the award of honorary Doctorate Degrees on 3 notable Nigerians: Professor Ochapa C. Onazi, Chairman of the implementation Committee for the establishment of the Plateau State University and pioneer Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Jonah Isawa Eliagwu, a foremost Middle Belt educationist and Dr. Zere Awosika, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Access Bank, Nigeria Limited and a pharmacist of note, respectively.

“At this Convocation Ceremony, we will be graduating 658 students for 2018/2019 academic session and 694 for 2019/2020 academic session, bringing the total to 1,352. Of this number, 2018/2019 academic session has six first class honour degrees, one hundred and fifty-nine second class upper honour degrees, three hundred and sixty-six second class lower degrees respectively, one hundred and twenty-five third class honour degrees and two pass degrees.

“For 2019/2020 academic session, we have seven first class honour degrees, one hundred and ninety-three second class upper honour degrees, one hundred and forty-three second class lower honour degrees, one hundred and twenty-seven third class honour degrees and four pass degrees in that order”, Izam highlighted.

He also disclosed that the convocation would be proceeded by the Convocation Lectures, Thursday titled “Education: The Foundation for Peace, Unity and Economic Development” to be delivered by Professor Nanven Gambo, Vice Chancellor of Karl Kumm University Vom.

There would also be the commissioning of notable projects completed within his tenure which include, the Faculty of Law, Post Graduate School, Faculty of Education, proposed Faculty of Agriculture. Others include the PLASU Rock Garden, the legacy project which is a tourist attraction, a medical centre and recreation thinking site for students, staff and various visitors.

However, the convocation proper would be on Friday February 27, 2023, at the institution’s Mini Stadium.

Guests expected include dignitaries where dignitaries like the Governor Simon Bako Lalong as the visitor.
