IN order to take stock of its performances, the Plateau State Government has held a Policy review retreat for commissioners and Permanent Secretaries.

The forum was held at Government House, Rayfield Jos on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 with the key stakeholders and cabinet members of the Rescue Administration in attendance.

In his opening address, Governor Simon Bako Lalong represented by his Deputy, Prof. Sonni Gwanle Tyoden said the yearly forum is an opportunity for stock taking and for Ministries Departments and Agencies ( MDAs) to give report to show their achievements.

Lalong said the retreat is also an avenue to show the level of implementation of 2020 projects earmarked by MDAs, including their expectations, challenges and a time to get other innovations to governance.

He described the retreat as very critical because the lifespan of his administration is gradually going down, and called on participants to give in their best by working hard to execute and deliver on their promises, despite their dwindling resources to ensure the Rescue Administration leaves lasting landmarks of good governance in the lives of Plateau citizens.

In a paper presentation by the state government’s Director General (DG) Research and Documentation, Prof. John Wade titled “Review of Policy Thrust of Rescue Administration”, challenges  like insufficient revenue, gaps in budgets and implementation, among others were identified as key setbacks to achieving governments set goals.

The Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS) Prof. Danladi Atu had also earlier in his speech, expressed optimism that the retreats objectives, on discussing how far the rescue administration of Governor Lalong has fared, will be met.

There was a goodwill message by representative of the German Development Agency GIZ, and various presentations including status of implementation of 2020 Retreat Communique,  MDA’s -physical infrastructure sector, human capital and social services sector, shared and support services sector, strategic partnership with private sector (PPP), Economic and finance sector.

A communique is expected at the end of the two day retreat that will address the retreat’s theme, which centres on assessment of what the government has achieved so far, and gaps that should be addressed.
