PLSG approves variation funds for projects

Plateau State government has promised to complete at least 13 major infrastructural projects before leaving office on May 29, 2023.

This informed its decision to approve variation of the projects during a virtual State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Lalong on 2nd February 2023.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang said the Lalong Administration is determined to leave a legacy before he leaves office.

He disclosed that with the approval of variation funds for the execution of major projects, the Lalong led rescue administration is making finishing touches for the completion of their stewardship in Plateau State.

Manjang said variation funds were approved for a network of road construction projects across Jos South,’ including areas in Rayfield, Favwei and Bukuru among others.

The other road projects include the Mangu Bwai for N2.1 bn Naira, Gazum Lomak, N2.3bn Naira, Korot Bakin Kogi  Kadunu N2.1bn Naira, the Langtang Garkawa Yelwa 70km road has a variation of N9.6bn Naira, while the fifty kilometers Rukuba-Miango- Farin Lamba Road has N3.7 bn Naira variation.

He said majority of the projects that variations were approved for touched on infrastructural development, education, health and the Judiciary.

Manjang said council also approved the engagement of a consultancy firm to carry out independent verification of bank charges on the accounts of the state government at 12 percent fee of the amount that would be realised.

He also said council had approved essential machines for Plateau Specialist Hospital that was earlier awarded.

The Commissioner of Finance Regina Soemlat stressed that the variations were necessary to address inflation in prices of materials following the difference in the value of the Naira with the period the agreements of the projects were signed.

The State Executive Council used the forum to inform citizens that the state government had concluded plans for the celebration of the 2023 Plateau Day,’ of forgiveness and reconciliation.

“The series of events earmarked for the celebration include Christian and Muslim prayers, a golf kitty,’ tour of completed projects led by Connected Development and a lecture by Professor Dakas CJ Dakas”, said Manjang.

Manjang urged Plateau citizens to be a part of the epoch-makingvent.
