As part of the measures to ensure a successful Governorship and State House Assembly Elections in Plateau State, Dr.Dinshak Luka Dajahar, Chairman of the Peace and Mediation Working Committee, Plateau State (PMWC), has urged stakeholders and citizens to ensure a violent free election in the forthcoming Governorship and State Assembly Elections come March 18, 2023.

Dajahar disclosed this during a press conference at the Youth Initiative Against Violence and Human Rights Abuse (YIAVHA), office in Jos, recently. He added that one of the main issues that had affected the credibility of the electoral process in Nigeria as a nation and Plateau State particularly is violence before, during, and after the elections.

“This normally leads to vote – buying, voter apathy, which most time, result in manipulation of the process which invariably lead to flawed outcomes.”

He encouraged every eligible voter, with a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to come and vote on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

According to him, “it is regrettable that youths are being used as “thugs” and foot soldiers that truncate democracy during elections. Instead, these young people should be attaining greater heights in life, which is the plan of every parent.”

Dajahar has called on citizens to resist taking the law into their hands and to report any incident to law enforcement agencies during and after the elections.

He tasked political leaders to caution their followers against any animosity among the candidature of the major gubernatorial aspirants.

The religious leaders, traditional rulers and community leaders should use their influence to call on political actors not to be involved in any manner of evil speaking that would cause violence.

He emphasized that electorate should know that politicians have their interests, but the interest of the citizens should be on who would have good governance and create the enabling environment needed to flourish, he said.
