Take advantage of direct primaries -Gbajabiamila to youths

SPEAKER of the House of Representatives Hon. Femi Gbajablamila has advised Nigerian Youths to take full advantage of the direct primaries as obtained in the Amended Electoral Act to fully actualize the Not too young run act to better positon themselves in leadership positions.

Speaking in an interactive session with a cross section of Nigerian Youths recently in his office on a courtesy visit, the speaker noted that now is the time for youths to galvanise themselves into positions of authority in the country.

The speaker emphasized the need for Nigerian youth to come together and ensure that credible candidates emerge from amongst them. On their own part as lawmakers he said “we have to go for direct primaries for the sake of sustenance of the institution of democracy and politics itself in Nigeria where every party member will have a say in the choice of candidaes for elective offices.

He noted that since the bill was passed into law, awaiting the presidents assents, it has generated diverse views and arguments but the underlying factors was to make democracy in Nigeria a true government of the people for the people and by the people.

Hon. Gajabiamila said for those querying where the legislature derived its power from to make a choice for all political parties, he referred them to section 22(2) of the 1999 constitution as amended.

The speaker assured that government recognizes the crucial role youths play in the development of not only Nigeria but the world over.
