Tarok nation urged on electing paramount ruler

Tarok nation has been told to work together towards electing its paramount ruler so as to bring sanity and progress to the land.

The advice was given by Emir of Kanam, HRH Muhammadu M. Muhammad at the 2023 I’lum O’Tarok, the Tarok Cultural Festival held in Langtang last Saturday.

The festival with the theme: Sustaining Peace and Cultural Solidarity for Economic Growth: Tarok Nation in Focus, the Emir who doubles as the Royal Father of the day while describing this year’s Tarok day as unique said he knows the Tarok people for maintaining their culture, and urged the older ones to teach their younger ones how they would continue with the sustenance of the culture.

The Royal Father also admonished the Tarok people to continue to live in peace with their neighbours and visitors, appreciated them for extending their hand of friendship to other tribes within and outside Plateau State.

In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Hon Ahmed Idris Wase, the Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives represented by one of his aides, Nanven Nimfel used the occasion to advice Tarok and its neighbours to continue with the peaceful nature they are living. He then expressed happiness with the support Hon Beni Lar is giving him. And used the occasion to give kudos to Ngwang ishi Otarok and Central Planning Committee of the Tarok Day for a fantastic organisation.

The Chairman of the Tarok Elders Forum, Air Marshal Jonah D. Wuyep while thanking all non-Tarok for their show of solidarity, promised to ensure peace and neighbourliness with the surrounding local government areas.

He further said without peace and unity, there would be no progress and urged the youths to ensure peace to reign in the land.

While welcoming people to this year’s Tarok Day, the National President of the Ngwang Ishi O’Tarok NIO, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni appreciated the state government for the restoration, creation of districts, which he described as well deserved.

On the National Population census, that was suspended, he urged people to be cautious while performing their civic duty. He pointed out that NIO under his watch has been committed to peaceful coexistence and warned Tarok against taking arms against their brothers. He however, called on Tarok to work towards installing their paramount ruler for the Tarok nation to thrive.

Highlights of the occasion was the performance of different traditional dances from within and outside Tarok land.

Goodwill messages from the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of illum O’Tarok, Dr Nanzing Nden, Chairman of Langtang North LGA Barr Bitrus Zulfa amongst others, rounded up the event.
