Traditional ruler assures of peaceful elections

His Royal Highness (HRH), Da Gabriel Adamu Sha, (OFR),Gwom Kabong of Jos North Local Government of Plateau State has assured citizens of a peaceful Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections come   March 18,2023.

Da Sha stated this during an Advocacy visit by the Plateau Peace and Mediation Committee to his palace adjacent Bishop’s Court Jenta, Jos on Tuesday. He added that a traditional institution and the custodian of the people’s culture, they would continue to play the role of mediation, enlightenment and advisory among their subjects to ensure that Plateau State is peaceful.

He called on the citizens to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner just like in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections held in February.

Prof.B.T.Bingel who represented the royal father assured that the ward heads of the locality would talk to the youths to come out and vote peacefully and maintain a violent free election.

Speaking earlier during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr.Dinshak Luka, from the Centre for Conflict Management and Peace Studies, University of Jos, said that it has become necessary for the group to visit the royal father looking at the nature of elections in the state. He said it is obvious that whenever elections approaches, there is usually tension among citizens, which most times leads to voter apathy.

According to Dr. Dinshak, the Committee want citizens to participate in the forthcoming elections without any fear of intimidation.

Recently, the group also paid an advocacy visit to the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State, Rev Fr Polylcap Lubo at NUJ Press Centre Jos soliciting that CAN speaks to its followers to ensure a peaceful election.

Lubo assured the group of his commitment to ensure that the message of peace is preached across all the denominations in order to have a violent- free election in the state.
