UBRB agency rocked by contract scam

The Upper Benue River Basin Authority a Federal Agency in Yola the Adamawa State capital is enmeshed in a fraudulent contract to the  tune of N334 million.

It is alleged that the Director of this Agency Abubakar Muazu awarded a contract to  proxies in contravention of the procurement processes as stipulated by law.

According to reliable sources, the Managing Director awarded contracts amounting to N334,388,448.99k with the projects neither advertised or bided for.

Seven different companies benefitted from the contracts.

A breakdown showed that the access road to the Garin Rafi draw back, Dadin Kowa Dan Mulki investment Ltd at N71,461,162.50k.

On August 10, 2017 a contract for emergency rehabilitation maintenance and operation at Kiri dam in Adamawa State was awarded to QL Teknit Ltd at N95,992,232.96k.

On March 20, 2017, a contract was awarded to Sanusi Paris and Co Nigeria Ltd for the purchase of project vehicles (Toyota Hilux and Toyota Corolla) for studies and design of Bagel and Zungur, Liman Katagum Dam and irrigation project in Bauchi State at the cost of N48,195,000.00k.

Construction of 3no. solar powered boreholes and 50 M3 pressed steel overhead tanks in selected locations in Adamawa and Gombe States for Lake Chad Basin.

Commission, dated August 22, 2017 at the cost of N41,727,096.69 awarded to Umar Bahago Water Engr. Service.

Abaha Integrated Concept Ltd. also got the contract for the rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure and procurement of 2016/2017 irrigation requirement for Yola irrigation project at N35,203,723.54 on January 20, 2017  Procurement of 180 units of water pumps, contracted to S.

Khadib and Yamani Global Concept Nig. Ltd. at the contract sum of N21,809,233.3. Procurement of 235 units of water pumps and accessories to Water User Association (WUA) along Gongola River at Kiri, Bare and Tallum, Adamawa State handled by Kye Builders Nig. Ltd and the contract sum was N20million.  

A whistleblower, had petitioned the Director General of Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP), to investigate the issues raised.

When contacted, Mu’azu said, he has recently been reappointed, as such it was too early for him to make media commends on any issue.
