WRAPA raises hopes on women concerns

Women’s Rights Advancement And Protection Alternative (WRAPA), has said that gender-based violence against women cannot continue if the provisions of VAPP Bill is to make any meaningful impact in Nigeria.
The voices of participants at the Town Hall Meeting held at the  City Lodge Hotel Jos, Plateau State on Saturday, March 26, 2022, held by WRAPA challenged all to demand that those in power must be accountable in signing and enactment of VAPP Bill and GEO Law in Plateau State.
Program Officer, Mrs. Jummai Madaki, appreciatd those who participated, even as she said the spirit behind the assembly is to raise awareness for the timely implementation of the GEO Law and for the governor to sign the pending bill.
Mrs. Madaki emphasised that the Gender and Equal Opportunity Law is meant to serve both genders, hence: Gender Equal Opportunity Law.
Various participants including Rt Hon Titus Alams, former Plateau House of Assembly Speaker, former Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) chairperson in the state, Mrs. Mary Izam and NAWOJ chairperson, Mrs. Jennifer Yarima who spoke praised the efforts of WRAPA, but emphasised that it was about time that a voice is given so that the laws can take effect in Plateau State.
The efforts of the women and men who have been in the struggle to actualize that the laws come into effect. The two laws are targeted are giving a voice to both genders.
The Town Hall Meeting resolutions which elicited so much interest from the participants, however, agreed that the coalition must mobilize and advocate for the take-off of the Gender Commission and the assent of the Governor Simon Bako Lalong to the VAPP Bill.
