KOGI State Internal Revenue Service on Monday flagged off Infrastructure Maintenance Levy Collection to keep roads across the state in good condition.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, while performing the ceremony at the Government House, Lokoja, said that the levy would be collected through Automation Device Technology to ensure efficiency and transparency.

The governor, who was represented by Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr. Mrs Folashade Ayoade, said that the levy, which was meant for all categories of commercial road users, was aimed at boosting the revenue generation capacity of the state for accelerated development and welfare of citizens.

He noted that the levy collection was a critical task under the revenue profile of the state and promised that money generated would be judiciously utilised for the purpose intended.

“We would make good use of this collection to improve upon government revenue for delivery of democracy dividends.

“I am pleased with the performance of the Chairman, Kogi Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, and his management team and staff. I must also commend both motor and motorcycle unions for adopting and accepting the infrastructure maintenance levy collection,” he said.

He called on all categories of commercial road users to support and comply with the new law, warning that failure to do so would be met with the full wrath of the law.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, disclosed that the organisation had been able to develop Device Technology Solution in its mandate of data capturing and registration process for effective revenue collection and removal of bottle necks and leakages.
