NCPWDs proposes Bauchi for zonal headquarters

IN its efforts to bring to light the activities of Persons with Disabilities to their door steps, the National Commission for People with Disabilities is proposing to establish North East Zonal Headquarters in Bauchi.

This revelation was made by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, James Lalu, when the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Agency for People with Disabilities and some directors paid an advocacy visit to the commission in Abuja, recently.

Lalu said that the commission was aware of the efforts Bauchi State Agency for PWDs was making towards bringing succour and support to this vulnerable group.

He pledged the commission’s support  for  the establishment of the zonal office in Bauchi State which, according to him, would further strengthen the support network for persons with disabilities in the region.

Earlier in her remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Bauchi State, Brisca Joram Aaron, disclosed that their visit was to commend the commission for its efforts in supporting persons with disabilities in Bauchi State.

She applauded the commission’s Executives Secretary and his management team for their innovative approach to tackling issues affecting PWDs across the country.

She added that  his long and effective service was an attestation to his hard work, dedication, commitment, selfless service and genuine concern for persons with disabilities.

” Under the purposeful leadership ofGovernor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed,  the agency has been resuscitated with a view  to bringing persons with disabilities closer to the government to cater for their essential needs, such as education, healthcare, and other social services,” she said.

In a related development,  Brisca Jarom Aaron also paid an advocacy visit to the office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunity,  Mohammed Abba Isa, to seek his support for the establishment of the zonal office of the Disability Commission in Bauchi State.

Ms. Aaron also informed the SSA that Bauchi, being the safest state in the North East Region, coupled with the enabling environment created by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, had all it takes to house the commission’s zonal office.

In his response, Abba Isa expressed  appreciation for the visit and pledged to collaborate closely with Bauchi State.

“Governor Mohammed’s administration is notable for its exceptional support and contributions to PWDs, making Bauchi State a leader in the north east region of Nigeria.

“Currently, Bauchi State is the only state in the region with an independent agency dedicated to persons with disabilities,” he said .

He gave assurance that the Federal Level Government would work with Bauchi State to enhance the well-being and open opportunities for PWDs.
