Taraba Governor sets agenda for youth, economy

Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has brought together policy makers, experts, business leaders and “ambitious” Taraba youths to engage in “meaningful conversations, share ideas and develop innovative solutions to the challenges” they face.

The ongoing first ever Taraba State Youths, Economic and Security Summit was flagged off by the governor with a view to empowering the youth to explore the economic potentials in the state.

The summit which has as its theme: Harvesting the potentials in our youths, repositioning Taraba from potentials to prosperity and securing our people, also featured lectures and interactions.

“This summit is testament of our belief in the power of collaboration and brotherhood.

“Taraba State is blessed with a vibrant and dynamic youths demography, full of creativity, energy and entrepreneurial spirit. It is our responsibility to harvest and channel these potentials for economic growth and security of our state.

“The state is confronted with a lot of challenges that are hindering our progress as a people. However, I strongly believe that within every challenge lies an opportunity and we must seize this moment to chart a new course for our people.

“We will empower our youth, promote economic prosperity and ensure the safety and security of our people,” Kefas stated in his speech.

Kefas also said his government will “invest in vocational trainings and skill development programmes, mentorship initiatives, to equip our young people with the necessary tools to prosper in the modern economy” which “will enable them to become job creators rather than job seekers”.

He also hinted on giving attention to infrastructural development and improving critical areas such as agriculture, tourism, education and health care.

The governor added: “The success of the summit will be measured not only by the quality of discussions and ideas generated during this session but by concrete actions that will follow this summit.

“I want to assure you that the out come of the summit will not only remain on paper but will be a road map for actions.

“After the summit, they are going to establish an implementation committee comprising of representatives from various sectors to oversee the execution of the recommendations that will be made after the summit”.
