Governor Mutfwang promises support to PLASU

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has promised to support in all ramifications, the Plateau State University(PLASU), Bokkos to compete academically with not only state universities but national and international universities.

According to the governor, the state university was one of the biggest assets the state has for the development of human capital and it would be supported to ensure that the institution discharges itd responsibility without interference.

The Executive Governor disclosed these when the Governing Council and management of the state university led by the Pro- Chancellor, Monsignor.Prof. Francis Obiora Ike paid him a visit at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos recently. He also gave the assurance that he would ensure that PLASU becomes the best.

Mutfwang revealed that he has taken it as a duty to mobilise and promote the University. He stated that he had fruitful discussion with the Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yankovic when they met in Abuja recently where they discussed areas of collaboration and where they needed to support the university in all spheres for productive output.

The governor who said despite the huge liability the present government met on ground, it would not deter them from carrying out their responsibility of providing the dividends of democracy to the people.

Mutfwang who was passionate about the visit informed the visitors that the focal point of this administration was to create wealth for the people in order to take them out of poverty.

He revealed that there was plan underway to expand the state economy so that it would be able to service some of the critical sectors that would better the lives of its citizens and urged PLASU to look inward and not be a begging institution.

On security of the university, Governor Mutfwang posited that it was paramount to him and he would use resources available to ensure that lives of staff and students are protected. He promised not to interfere with the running of the institution, instead he assured of his readiness to fortify the university so that it would be second to none.

He commended the institution’s staff for not embarking on strike and urged them to keep the spirit so that the future of the next generation would not be affected in one way or the other.

Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Monsignor -Prof . Francis Obiora Ike congratulated Mutfwang for a well deserved victory during the governorship elections. And called on him to remain focused and not to be detracted in discharging his responsibility to the people of the state.

The Rev. Fr. intimated the governor that the institution has over 6000 students and hopes to have more next academic session. He appealed to the governor for their unpaid remittances of over five months by the government which he said if released would cushion some challenges.

Apart from that, Monsignor Ike said local government councils of the state were owing the university N1.2 billion. As a result, the institution was unable to settle their Earned Allowances of about N220 million.

The pro-chancellor further intimated the governor that the university would need over N300 million in the next three months for the accreditation of new courses so that they would put things in proper order before the accreditation team arrives.
