BENUE SEC APPROVES CONSTRUCTION OF 2 OVERPASS

The Benue State Executive Council has approved the proposed construction of two overpasses popularly known as flyover bridges in Makurdi the Benue State capital.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, disclosed this recently, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Benue State Executive Council meeting (EXCO) held recently.

According to the governor’s spokesman, already exco has directed the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development to carry out a feasibility study on the viability and suitability of the two overpasses which are expected to be situated at Wurukum and High Level roundabouts all in Makurdi, the state capital.

Kula further disclosed that aside from the ongoing township roads in Makurdi, the State Executive Council has also given approval for the construction of key rural roads with one sitting in each of the three senatorial districts (Benue northeast, west and south) senatorial districts.

The governor’s image maker told newmen that Executive also approved changes in the nomenclature of some ministries, adding that the decision was to synchronize state ministries with the government at the centre in order to bring more development to the state.

With the new changes, the Ministry of Works & Housing has been changed to Ministry of Works, Housing & Urban Development while Ministry of ICT & Digital Economy has been renamed Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.

In the same vein, the Ministry of Cooperatives, Urban & Rural Development is now Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development while Ministry of Power and Transport has now become Ministry of Power, Renewable Energy and Transport.

Also, the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation has been changed to Ministry of Science and Technology while the hitherto Ministry of Finance, Budget & Economic Planning is now known as Ministry of Finance.

The Chief Press Secretary added that the Ministry of Agriculture is now Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, while Ministry of Commerce and Industry is now changed to Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

Also, Executive approved the establishment of Benue Public Service Institute (BPSI) which will serve as a training centre for civil servants in the state.

This, the CPS maintained, was to improve the proficiency and efficiency of state civil servants.

While commiserating with people of Logo, Ukum and Obi Local Government Areas over the recent herder’s onslaught on their communities, Executive charged Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the affected councils to always be at their local governments in order to be able to gather firsthand intelligence reports about security happenings in their localities.
