Emir of Zazzau to be new UniJos Chancellor

ALL is set for the investiture programme of Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, as the new Chancellor of the University of Jos, Plateau State scheduled for this Saturday during the grand convocation ceremony of the institutions in Jos.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, disclosed this recently while briefing journalists on the occasion marking the commencement of the 33rd and 34th Combined Convocation, held at the Senate Chamber of the University.
He said, “I am delighted to warmly welcome members of the press who are attending today’s press briefing marking the commencement of events to celebrate the 33rd and 34th Combined Convocation ceremonies of the University of Jos.
“As has been the tradition of the university over the years, we are kick-starting this year’s convocation activities with a media parley because of the importance attached and the critical role the media plays in creating awareness among the populace.
“Several activities have also been lined up to make this year’s celebration worthwhile. They are as follows: Thursday May 11, 2023 there will be award of Certificates like, Diplomas and Undergraduate Degrees at the Faculty of Social Sciences Auditorium, Naraguta Campus , Permanent Site by 10.00 am.
“Friday May 12, 2023- there will Convocation Lecture by Professor Anthony Okon Nyong, Director, Climate Change and Green Growth , Africa Development Bank, Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire and 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate titled: “Combating Climate Change for National Security and Development” at the Faculty of Social Sciences by 3.00 pm”, he highlighted.
According to the VC, “at the grand finale on Saturday May 13, 2023, there will be award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and PhD Degrees at the Faculty of Social Sciences Auditorium, Naraguta Campus of the University of Jos by 10:00 am.
“The highpoints of Saturday’s programme will be the investiture of His Royal Highness, Mal. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, the Emir of Zazzau as the new Chancellor of the University of Jos. The Chancellor will also be conferred with the Doctor of Law Degree (LL.D, Honoris is Causa) in company of two other eminent Nigerians; Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, OON, a renowned scholar and former Executive Secretary of TETFund with the Doctor of Engineering Degree (D.Engr. Honoris Causa).
“The other personality to be conferred alongside the Chancellor is the an Elder statesman and former Nigerian Envoy to Switzerland, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, OON, with the Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) Honoris Causa. The Honorary Degrees are being conferred on these distinguished Nigerians for their unique and outstanding contributions to national development and growth of humanity”, Ishaya enthused.
He, however, disclosed that the number of students to be graduated during this convocation would be 20,532 and out of this number, 112 came out with First Class, 3093 with Second Class (Upper Division), 6325 Second Class (Lower Division), 1361 Third Class degree, 281 Pass and 109 Pass Qualified for Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine Programme respectively.
