Lalong charges on restoration of peace

Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State says efforts to restore peace and build a better nation requires the contribution of all Nigerians.

The governor stated this at the interdenominational Church service to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at Saint Monica Catholic Church, State Low cost, Rantya Jos, Sunday.

The inter-denominational Church service celebrating the Armed Forces Remembrance Day brought together Christians from across different denominations, military and paramilitary to observe a special prayer for the fallen heroes, ex-service men as well as those still in service for their contribution to the unity of the country.

Represented by his Deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden, Lalong said the annual event was in recognition of efforts in keeping the country united.

Government, he said, has been doing its best to support the military in its struggle to fight insecurity and stressed that the contributions of all Nigerians would also serve as a morale booster to the service men.

General Officer Commanding 3rd Armoured Division, Rukuba, Jos, Major General Ibrahim Ali represented by Brigadier General David Kurmi said as they pray for the fallen heroes, peace of the country, children of the fallen heroes and ex-service men must be put into focus.

Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Plateau State, Colonel Sati Yilwat represented by Col. Livinus Laplit expressed gratitude to God and all Nigerians for their continued support.

Earlier in a sermon, the priest of Saint Monica Catholic Church, Rantya, Rev Fr Friderick Wukari said the journey to salvation may be difficult, but Christians must remain focused.

Wukari added that Nigerians must show sincerity first in celebrating the fallen heroes as well as be ready to sacrifice for the growth and development of the nation.

Other personalities at the occasion were the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Yakubu Sanda, Secretary to the Government of the state, Professor Danladi Atu, former military Governor of the state, Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum, heads of para-military agencies in the state and some top government officials.
