Tivs debunk insinuation in Nasarawa

From Wilson Bako Lafia

THE Tiv community in Kadarko Village of Keana Local Government area of Nasarawa State has described as laughable and totally mischievous  that the Tivs are non indigenous or have been hosted by some other ethnic group in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Lafia the Nasarawa State Capital, the spokesman for the indigenous Tiv community in Kadarko, Honourable William Audu  explained that the issue does not deserve any explanation but it does appear that some people out of what he described as  desperation are bent on distorting history to suit their imaginations.

Hon Audu stated that it is a well established fact that the Tiv started representating Keana both at Federal and local levels as far back as 1967and wondered why anyone in his right thinking senses could turn round and say that the Tivs are not indigenes.

The spokesman vehemently denied ever being hosted by any minority tribe as being claimed by the Alago and Gwandara people.

He said the Tivs in the area have never been hosted either through conquest or primacy of settlement in either Kadarko or Giza areas.

He said neither the Alago nor the Gwandara were in Giza or Kadarko when the Tivs first settled there.

Hon. Audu alleged that all the frequent killings of Tiv people on their farms by suspected harders were being teleguided by the Paramount ruler of Gadarko and Chairman of Keana Local Government Area of the state.

He said the Tiv people don’t blame the herders for killing their people but those that instigate them to hunt Tivs.

The spokesman expressed regret that all their ancestral farmlands have forcefully been taken away from them and the Fulani herders have been settled on their with the full support of the Keana LG Chairman and the traditional ruler of Kadarko.

Hon Audu while thanking the state Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule for the role he is playing to meditate on the crises further appealed to the governor to ensure the provision of more security personnel to protect Tiv people on their farms as they were being slaughtered like rams on their farms.

He said the most painful aspect of it all is that only Tiv people were being killed on their farms and called for quick intervention by the state government to save his people from being wipe out completely by those who do not wish them well.
