Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly (PLHA), Rt. Hon. Moses Thomas Sule has described the killings in some parts of the state as a deliberate act of murder and genocide and not what many call ‘a clash or farmers/herders clash’, and that any attempt to take human life is unacceptable and punishable under the law.

He made this known, when members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State chapter led by the Chairman, Rev Father Polycarp Lubo paid him a courtesy call in his office, at the assembly complex.

The speaker who expressed serious concern with the security challenges going on unabated said it was rather unfortunate that it is now taking a different dimension, adding that the rate at which it is spreading is a course for alarm.

He disclosed that upon assumption of office, one of the first items dealt excessively with during plenary was the issue of insecurity, assuring that laws of the tenth assembly will be such that will be beneficial to all citizens including giving the executive the necessary backing to tackle the menace.

According to him, he was elected to work for all Plateau people, not for self or a selected few as he promised to do everything within his power to ensure that a great percentage of displaced persons go back to their ancestral homes.

On the state security outfit Operation Rainbow, the speaker revealed that it was ready to come up with a legislation that will empower it to operate, especially in the areas of funding, manpower and all that it needs to function effectively.

Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation, Rev. Father Polycarp Lubo said the purpose of their visit was to first and foremost congratulate the speaker on his emergence as leader of the tenth assembly and to show their support and solidarity.

While enjoining the speaker to work for the interest of Plateau, the clergy assured that despite the enormous task ahead of him and his colleagues, prayers will always be said to God for wisdom and strength.

He called for the Anti-Land Grappling Act to be fully operational in the state, whereby people can go to the court of law and challenge any attempt by anybody to take their lands, also for a law that will ensure that all displaced persons go back to their ancestral homes.

In his words: “Enough is enough on the killings in Plateau State. Christians are concerned and worried about the insecurity going on and I am appealing to the state assembly to create a law that will permit citizens to carry arms for self defense”.
