Police parade 80 year old suspected rapist, others

PLATEAU Command of Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has arrested and paraded eighty (80) years man, Peter Ashom, suspected for luring eleven years old girl into his room on the pretense of sending her on errand and has had carnal knowledge of her on the threat of killing her if she disclosed the act.

The State Police Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Julius Alaware psc, disclosed this while parading the suspect alongside others, at the state headquarters of the Nigeria Police Jos, the state capital, recently.

The Commissioner said, “We have succeeded in putting an end to the activities of some criminal-minded individuals in our midst whose perception of a decent life is to steal, rob, kill, destroy properties, kidnap, burgle places of citizens and commit other heinous crimes in the state.

“Our recent operational breakthroughs are as follows: Arrest of suspect for the offence of criminal intimidation and defilement. On 09/10/2023 we received information that one Peter Ashom, an 80 years old man, lured an 11 years old girl into his room and attempted to have carnal knowledge of her.

“This, he did, under the pretence of sending her on errands anytime she goes to sell groundnuts and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The case is still under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of due investigation”, he disclosed.

Other suspects paraded included two suspected women of Kungul village in Richa District of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, who were arrested for being in possession of six (6) 750kg bags containing dry leaves suspected to be cannabis and three (3) Dane guns.

Alaware said, “on 25/10/2023 at about 0530hrs, SWAT operatives of the Command led by the DPO Bokkos Division, raided the residential premises of one Gabriel Dare ‘m’ of Kungul village, Richa district, Bokkos where the following suspects, one Mary Gabriel and one Briskilla Dare both ‘f’ of same address were arrested.

“The following items were found in their possession: Six (6) 750kg bags containing dry leaves suspected to be Cannabis, and three (3) Dane guns. The suspects were immediately arrested and taken to the police station. Investigation is still ongoing, future developments will be communicated to you”, he assured.

Also paraded were suspects of mob action/culpable homicide that claimed the life of an Innocent young man, Fwinbe Thomas Gofwan (35yrs) who was lynched along Tudun-Wada Ring road in front of a filling station close to Domkat Bali Road, recently.
Parading the suspects, the Commissioner said, “on the 28/09/2023 at about 2230hrs, information was received at Anglo Jos Division that one Fwinbe Thomas Gofwan, age 35yrs, was lynched by a mob in front of a filling station close to Domkat Bali Road along Tudun Wada Ring Road via Hwolshe, Jos.

“Based on the information received, Police Officers moved to the scene where the victim was found lying down unconscious in a pool of his own blood with multiples injuries on his body.

“The victim was rushed to Plateau Specialist Hospital for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctors. The following suspects, one Emmanuel Binbol and one Moses Yakubu were arrested in connection to the crime. Further developments will be communicated to you in due course”, CP Okoro told journalists.

However, the total number of suspects arrested for different offences were thirty-nine (39) including 7 locally made pistols recovered; 11 locally fabricated rifles recovered; 23 numbers of ammunition recovered respectively.
