Worried over low election and appointment of Nigerian youths in governance, a non-governmental organisation, NGO, Conscience for Human Rights & Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), has challenged youths to embrace leadership roles through effective participation in politics.

The Executive Director, CHRCR, Idris Miliki Abdul made the call during a one day round-table for Youth Focus Organisations And Media on Inspiring Youth for Leadership Business held in Lokoja recently.

Abdul said that the round-table discussion was organised by CHRCR in partnership with The Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) as part of its efforts to provide youths with the needed inspiration to venture into political leadership.

“The rationale behind this motive is to raise the spirit of our youths for more participation in the political landscape of the nation through effective engagement.

“It will also propel the zeal of the youths to fight for their agenda as insiders in governance such as what they can offer for the welfare of their counterparts and interns of employment, skills acquisition and other empowerment.

“As future leaders, this forum will afford you the needed inspiration to make your impacts towards the development of your immediate society.

“Our goal is to ensure that young persons become leaders”.

The Executive Director disclosed that the leadership approaches would be realised through community mobilisation, media engagement, capacity building, institutional strengthening, publication and research.

Hamza Aliyu, Executive Director, Initiative for Grass-Root Advancement (INGRA), made a presentation on challenges of youths in attaining leadership positions and the way forward while Ibukun Ajayi dwelled on the impact of youth scorecards.
