A civil society organisation, The Foundation for Peace, Hope and Conflict Management, has sought for a partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Taraba State Command on the situation of migrants and IDPs in the state.

The coordinator of the Foundation, Rev. Fr. Anthony Bature, while leading his team to the Command in Jalingo, said the FPHCM was leading the civil society network on migration in the state ahead of the International Migrants Day coming up in December.

According to Bature, the role of the NGO was to ensure the safety of migrants and how Civil Society Organisations can impact the lives of migrants. He called for partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and government.

He also spoke on the internally displaced persons (IDPs) situation in the state. According to him, the IDPs “have melted into families” within their host communities and that “the meeting would enable us the opportunity of knowing where the IDPs are”

The Comptroller, Taraba State Command of Nigeria Immigration Service, CIS Halid Usman Kwa (pcc), said migration had push and pull factors such as for economic prosperity, safety, conflict, natural disasters and that the two aspects are regular and irregular migration.

He disclosed that Taraba had a case of refugees due to the Ambazonian crisis in neighbouring Cameroon. He mentioned Sardauna, Takum and Kurmi as areas where refugees exist. According to him, the presence of those refugees have created a lot of social vices in their host communities.

He therefore promised to synergize and partner with the CSOs.
