PLASIEC pledges to conduct credible elections

CHAIRMAN of Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), Hon. Plangji Cishak, has assured citizens of Plateau State of the commission’s readiness to conduct credible elections in the 17 Local Government Councils of the state.

Cishak, who stated this in a press briefing at the Commission’s headquarters in Jos, recently, said that as an “electoral umpire, our mandate is to fortify the electoral processes framework, starting from the ward level up to the local government.”

He pointed out that the commission would foster collaboration among all stakeholders, and citizens of Plateau State in ensuring their votes count in the choice of leaders at the grassroot.

Cishak added that they would establish a level playing field that instills confidence across all political parties in the state, by forging a robust partnership with media professionals, security agencies, development partners (International Foundation for Electoral System), YIAGA Africa and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

According to him, they were committed and dedicated to nurture democratic leadership structures at the local level, by rewriting the narrative of local government elections in the state and Nigeria through transparency, fairness, professionalism and inclusivity.

The chairman reiterated that PLASIEC is poised to set a standard of integrity and fairness in her service delivery to the state in accordance with established rules, guidelines and global best practices.
