GONE are the days when government used to provide all the necessary items and materials for hospitals and also make the patients comfortable by maintaining good sanitary environment for the comfort of patients.

Today, most of the government hospitals have  few bedspreads, for the patients. This situation has to made some patients’ relations to come along with their bedspreads and blankets from home.

It is often assumed that philanthropists and some organisations have enough or are given grants by foreign aids. That is why help often comes in the form of assistance to reduce the hardship in the society.

Every organisation or association has her laid down guidelines on what is to be done. That is why some people visit orphanaged homes, prisons, hospitals and other places to share with them the blessings God gave them for those number of years.

It is in the light of this that, the Ah’men Family of Shendam which is a nongovernmental organization decided to celebrate the New Year at the Shendam General Hospital with patients.

The Ah’men Family is a group made up of families who came together after serving the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Shendam which is now a Cathedral in their young age as Mass Servants (Altar Boys). They decided to include a few other close friends to share the love together.

Asides the fun and enjoyment  the group is identified with whenever they come together or among members during  occasions, the group has always remembered widows, and also given assistance to up coming churches.

Also, knowing that life is short, the group does not hesitate to celebrate end of year events with an annual thanksgiving in the Church. This is to appreciate God for all the good, the bad and the ugly. It is their believe that no matter what has gone wrong during the year, they must give thanks to God.

The group seeing the needs in some hospitals Ah’men decided to purchase and donate some bedspreads with pillow cases to Shendam General Hospital authority. Apart from the bedspread donations, patients on admission that day also got individual gifts of toiletries which include Dettol, detergent, pampers for new born babies and other items just to mention but a few.

What is so inspiring about the Ah’men Family is the spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm that every member has and always show towards the success of every event that is being organized.

Preparing for any event such as giving assistance entails huge monetary implications. How do they plan it? However, they do not allow the cost implications to scare them. God has been faithful in all circumstances. The important thing is that they agree by means of individual contributions after getting the cost implications.

Receiving the items, the senior Matron of Shendam General Hospital, Mr Julius Magaji and his assistant, thanked the Ah’men group for remembering the hospital and as one among many to reach in the new year. He prayed that God will bless all the group members for their sacrifice and especially for showing love to all the patients on admission through the gifts they distributed. He also prayed for God’s protection to overshadow them.
