THE Office of the Accountant General, Plateau State, has organised a four-day capacity building workshop titled, “Understanding Oublic Finance Management in a Modern Economy,” for staff of the office.

Declaring it open at the Crest Hotel, Jos, recently, Governor Caleb Mutfwang commended the office of the Accountant General for organising the workshop, describing it as “bearer of public trust.”

According to him, it was the bid to avoid incompetence that necessitated the workshop, believing that at the end of it, he would be proud to see them competing with their colleagues globally.

Governor Mutfwang challenged all staff to acquire ANAN or ICAN to further strengthen their capacities, saying that anything short of that would not be tolerated in the next two years.

He posited that money spent must be reflected on the quality of services rendered to Plateau citizens and urged them to ensure accountability and transparency in the utilisation of public funds.

Commissioner of Finance, Mrs. Grace Donkum, explained that the workshop would enhance the knowledge of staff of the office of the Accountant General and urged them to reciprocate the gesture by putting in their best in the service.

The Head of Civil Service, Barrister Rauta Dakok, said that the Mutfwang administration had developmental plans for civil servants and assured the people of the state that they would continue getting value from government services.

Mrs. Nanret Mangset, the Accountant General, assured the governor that the workshop would trigger transformation in the civil service of the state.

Topics lined up for discussion according to our correspondent include: Professional Ethics and Standard in Public Sector Accounting; Monthly Returns as a Feedback and Control Mechanism in Public Finance Management; Taxes and Tax Administration; and Double Entry Principles in Public Sector Accounting, amongst others.
